Boeing Confirms 777-9 Launch Customer Will Be Lufthansa
On Tuesday, the uncertainty ended between Emirates or Lufthansa becoming the first new launch customer of the new Boeing 777-9. Boeing is still working to achieve a type certification from the Federal Aviation Administration as well as partner closely with meeting Lufthansa’s seating requirements, but hope to launch the Lufthansa Boeing 777-9 in 2026. The seating issues between Boeing and Lufthansa aren’t exclusive to the new launch. Boeing has been working through “seat certification issues” with Lufthansa’s jets on the 787s as well, according to Boeing’s Chief Executive Kelly Ortberg. FlightGlobal reports that Lufthansa is installing seats that are made by various manufacturers in its long-haul jets.
